On the occasion of Gopal Kala, we bring you a list of popular dahi handi numbers down the years...

Govinda aala re

Film: Bluff Master (1963)
 Music : Kalyanji-Anandji
 Singer : Mohammed Rafi

The combination of pulsating music and lyrics and Shammi Kapoor doing his own version of Bhagwan Dada dance resulted in a classic which makes you feel the rhythm even now. This oldie has become the de rigueur song during the dahi handi festivities down the years and serves as a template for such songs.

Shor mach gaya shor

Film : Badla (1974)
 Music : Laxmikant-Pyarelal
 Singer : Kishore Kumar

Shatrughan Sinha was one tough guy who mostly refrained from shaking a leg in films. But here, since it was Govinda celebrations, he let go of inhibitions and the result is an infectious song that has him dancing energetically to the tune and taking part in the festivities in full form.

Mach gaya shor saari nagri re

Film: Khuddar (1982)
 Music : Rajesh Roshan
 Singer: Kishore Kumar

Dahi handi celebrations aren’t complete without Mach gaya shor saari nagri re. This robust song features the lovely combination of Amitabh Bachchan and Parveen Babi romancing each other in the guise of the Govinda celebrations. Their chemistry sizzled the screen.

Chalo milke chalo re sab gwale

Film : Kala Bazaar (1989)
 Music : Rajesh Roshan
Singers : Anuradha Paudwal, Shabbir Kumar, Amit Kumar

Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Farah and Kimi Katkar shook a leg to this energy filled song and the two men then climb the pyramid together to jointly break the matki, only to have it shattered by an assassin's bullet. You don't remember the film but the song and it's explosive ending has stayed with you.

Chandi ki daal par

Film: Hello Brother (1999)
 Music : Himesh Reshanmiya
Singers : Alka Yagnik, Salman Khan

This raunchy song has Salman taking off his shirt while climbing the pyramid and let us tell you no Govinda ever looked so chisled as him ever in our films. It was the perfect songs for him to showcase both his body and his masti and him exercising his vocal chords as well was the proverbial icing on the cake.

Go go go Govinda

Film : OMG — O My God! (2012)
 Music : Himesh Reshammiya
Singers : Mika Singh, Shreya Ghoshal

We have seen an increase in the all-girl Govinda gangs of late and this Sonakshi Sinha song paid homage to that. It was an energetic number and not only Sonakshi looked good playing the Govinda, she got to emulate  her father as well.
