Albert Brooks is an American actor, writer, director, and comedian. He is best known for his roles in films such as Lost in America, Defending Your Life, and Drive. He has also written and directed several films, including Modern Romance, Mother, and The Muse. Brooks was born in Beverly Hills, California, to Thelma Leeds, an actress, and Harry Einstein, a radio comedian who performed on the radio as Parkyakarkus. He has two siblings, Bob Einstein and Clifford Einstein. Brooks attended Beverly Hills High School and later studied theater at Carnegie Mellon University. He began his career as a stand-up comedian in the 1970s, and later appeared in films such as Real Life, Modern Romance, and Lost in America. In addition to his acting career, Brooks has written and directed several films, including Mother, The Muse, and Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World. He has also written several books, including 2030: The Real Story of What Happens to America, and 2030: The Real Story of What Happens to America.
