Gabby Douglas is an American artistic gymnast and three-time Olympic gold medalist. Dubbed “The Flying Squirrel”, she’s the first African-American female to win the Olympic individual all-around championship. Gabby was born to parents Timothy Douglas and Natalie Hawkins on December 31, 1995 in Newport News, Virginia. She has three siblings, Arielle, Joyelle and John. Gabby attended Oak Park High School in Oak Park, California. She graduated in June 2015, same time as actress Zendaya Coleman.

CAREER
Gabby began her gymnastic training at Gymstrada in 2002. She won the Virginia State Gymnastics championship two years later. She was placed fourth in the 2010 Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup. Gabby won her first title at the Junior level for the uneven bars at the 2010 Pan American Championships. She moved to Des Moines, Iowa at age 14 to train under coach Liang Chow.

Gabby made her senior debut in 2011. She won gold as a member of team USA at the World Championships (2011), and at the Pacific Rim Championships (2012). Gabby competed and won gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics for her performance on the uneven bars. She was named Female Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press in 2012. Other individual medals include silver at the 2015 World Champs and gold at the 2016 American cup. Gabby was a member of the 2016 Olympic team along with Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Madison Kocian and Laurie Hernandez. She picked up her third Olympic gold medal for the gymnastic team competition.

In 2016, Gabby starred as herself in Oxygen’s reality series, Douglas Family Gold. She was also the subject of the 2014 Lifetime biographical film, The Gabby Douglas Story.
