Sgt. Greg Moore remembered at Idaho Peace Officer Memorial candlelight vigil
MERIDIAN, Idaho (KBOI) — Sgt. Greg Moore, a Coeur d'Alene police officer shot and killed in the line of duty on May 5, 2015, was remembered Wednesday night at a candlelight vigil at the Idaho Peace Officer Memorial.
Moore is one of 71 officers in Idaho who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their community.
"We know it's that type of profession," said Idaho Peace Officer Memorial president Mike Johnson. "You don't think about it. You have it in the back of your head but you don't dwell on it."
Wednesday's vigil honored those 71 officers, including Sgt. Greg Moore, who lost his life on the job last May.
"It's often said that the only person who can fully understand the wall is somebody whose worn a badge," Johnson said. "Even more true, it's that family behind the badge."
Moore's family sat scattered in the crowd Wednesday, watching as officers and the community honored a hero who protected and served.
"I think it's just important to remember," Johnson said. "There are 71 names, but they're not names. They're husbands, a wife, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters., they're your neighbor. Sometimes we forget to say thank you."
Wednesday's vigil was a precursor to a larger ceremony happening Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Idaho State Police headquarters.
The public is invited to attend.
