Jerusalem: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Wednesday claimed that the commander of Hamas’ Central Jabaliya Battalion, Ibrahim Biari, has been eliminated by the fighter jets. The IDF also reiterated its warning to all the residents of the region to move south for their safety.

In a post on the social media platform X, formerly called Twitter, IDF wrote, “IDF fighter jets eliminated Ibrahim Biari, Commander of Hamas' Central Jabaliya Battalion…The strike damaged Hamas’ command and control in the area and eliminated a large number of terrorists who were with Biari. Additionally, underground terrorist infrastructure collapsed following the strike.”

Who Was Ibrahim Biari?

As per the IDF, Ibrahim Biari, the Commander of Hamas' Central Jabaliya Battalion, was one of the leaders responsible for the attack on Israel on October 7. Ibrahim Biari was reportedly responsible for directing members of the group’s elite Nukhba forces to invade Israel. According to the IDF, Hamas' Central Jabaliya Battalion took control of several civilian buildings in the area.

As per reports, Biari controlled all the operations of Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip since the militant group launched an attack.

"He was very important, I would say even pivotal in the planning and the execution of the October 7 attack against Israel from the northeastern parts of the Gaza Strip," IDF spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus was quoted by news agency Reuters as saying.

As per a report by The Jerusalem Post, Biari was also involved in sending militants at the Ashdod port in 2004, which led to the deaths of 13 Israelis.

According to the health ministry in Gaza, more than 50 people were killed and 150 others injured in the Israeli air raid on the Jabaliya refugee camp. "More than 50 martyrs and around 150 wounded and dozens under the rubble, in a heinous Israeli massacre that targeted a large area of homes in Jabaliya camp in the northern (Gaza) Strip," a ministry statement said.
