Tameka Yallop News

On Monday, Tameka Yallop and Lydia Williams rebuffed any attempts to make this week’s Women’s World Cup semifinal against England, Australia’s most ferocious sporting opponent, more significant.

The two seasoned internationals were quick to dispel the notion that playing England on Wednesday for a spot in the final held any special significance as they were still recovering from the high of Saturday’s thrilling triumph against France.

“At the end of the day, we know how to change our attention to performing and representing. Even if we are in the semifinals, it’s still just another opponent for us, even though it’s a big game.

Williams watched as MacKenzie Arnold, a fellow goalkeeper, shone in the Saturday shootout drama that set off “Matildas Mania” throughout Australia. Midfielder Yallop entered the game as a replacement and converted the sixth penalty.

We definitely enjoyed every minute of that match, in front of that crowd, and of course in front of everyone watching in Australia and outside the borders as well, she added. “The feeling in the group is really high right now,” she remarked. However, we also want to relive that emotion, thus we are concentrating on the upcoming contest.

Yallop, who has played more than 100 times for her nation, said she did not believe that the Matildas’ 2-0 victory against European champion England in London in April would have much of an impact on Wednesday’s game.

She remarked, “That was a friendly game. And certainly, there is something we can learn from it. But it’s also an entirely different game now that the World Cup knockout rounds have begun.

Yallop stated that the sellout crowd at Stadium Australia should expect the Matildas to give it their all for however long the game lasts in order to advance their nation to a first-ever world soccer final.

“That’s part of our jersey,” she affirmed. When you wear it, you really do kind of replicate that never-say-die attitude, which is something that is taught in us from an early age.

“I believe that before you even put on the Matildas jersey, you have to have that edge. I believe that’s something that Australia undoubtedly supports and in which we take tremendous pride.
