Venom Once ATE Carnage in Marvel's Comic Universe

Publish date: 2024-07-08

Venom once managed to destroy his spawn Carnage...in the most disgusting manner possible.

Venom has battled against his spawn Carnage for years, but one encounter would ensure Carnage was stopped... in the most disgusting way possible. Because while most symbiotes can be harmed or killed using fire or sonics, unlike Venom and Eddie Brock, the Carnage symbiote is bonded with Cletus Kasady's bloodstream. Which means that the symbiote will continue to exist inside Kasady... provided that he's alive and pumping blood through his veins.

Even if the symbiote gets destroyed on the surface level, it can still reemerge at any time from within Kasady's body if he bleeds. This form of bonding would seemingly make Carnage indestructible, and a threat that cannot be easily stopped. However, Venom managed to find one way to defeat the killer symbiote, though the method was less than... appetizing.

After a long period of being separated, Eddie Brock was reunited with the Venom symbiote in Peter Parker Spider-Man #9. In the aftermath of their reunion, Venom decided to settled all his debts, and eliminate anyone who had ever wronged him. Venom started with his spawn, Cletus Kasady, who was currently imprisoned in the aftermath of Carnage bonding with Silver Surfer, received a not so special visitor in the form of Eddie Brock. Venom decided that, in order to completely remove the threat of Carnage from the world, he would have to devour and absorb Carnage completely.

Venom managed to remove the Carnage symbiote from Kasady's bloodstream to the extent that, despite his best efforts, Carnage would not reemerge from Kasady's body. Though Carnage did not settle inside Venom after being ingested, as Venom would occasionally see Carnage try to reemerge from within his symbiote. Over time the symbiote would stay dormant inside Eddie, even if Cletus's story was far from over.

Though Carnage made his grand return shortly after losing his suit, Venom's means of disposing of the suit is curious, if not disgusting. If Venom could absorb symbiotes completely, he could have stopped Carnage years before he absorbed the psychotic symbiote. Venom could have also used the same trick when Carnage returned, ensuring that the serial killer would never regain any form of power. It's not as if Venom had completely forgotten this ability either, as Eddie Brock used the Venom symbiote to absorb a clone of his symbiote at one point in time.

If Symbiotes are seemingly able to absorb one another, why is this power not used more often? It's possible that, as seen with Venom, the adverse side effects of absorbing another suit could compromise, and potentially harm, the original symbiote. Since some symbiotes hold more dominant personalities, absorbing such a symbiote could affect the original personality of the absorbing symbiote. Whatever the case may be, Venom's act of eating his own spawn, Carnage, stands as one of the Lethal Protector's most vile moments.
