Ellen Page poses for photos on an LA beach in man's business suit

She cut a raffish figure as she posed in an eye-catching suit for a beach-side photoshoot in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

But there was no clue as to why Ellen Page was dressed in the black-and-white striped jacket and trousers or who the shoot was for.

The 27-year-old actress also wore a sharp white shirt, a black skinny tie and black flats as stylists fussed around her.

And, taking a hint from Pharrell Williams, her brunette, pixie-cut tresses were hidden under a large black fedora.

The ensemble certainly looked good on the petite Juno star, who is just 5ft 1ins tall.

She grinned mischievously with her hands thrust into her pockets as she stood on the sand next to a palm tree with the Pacific Ocean visible in the background.

And it was just as well Ellen was wearing the suit, as it was a cool morning with the sea mist holding temperatures down.

The Canadian actress, who came out as gay last February, has plenty to smile about just now. 

Lionsgate won a bidding war for North American rights to her passion project, Freeheld, at the Berlin Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday.

The movie tells the true story of the late Laurel Hester, a police detective diagnosed with terminal cancer, who fought for the right to transfer her pension benefits to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree.

Julianne Moore stars as Hester while Ellen, who is also one of the producers, plays Stacie.

Remarkably, Lionsgate and other companies, including Focus Features, Sony Pictures Classics and Netflix, put in their bids after seeing a 12-minute reel and not a completed film since Freeheld is still in post.

Steve Carell, Michael Shannon, and Luke Grimes also star in the drama, based on the 2007 Academy Award-winning documentary short of the same name.
