Trevor Bauer pitching for Mexican team vs. Yankees searching for MLB return
Trevor Bauer will be back on the mound against an MLB ball club… Though he’ll be pitching for a Mexican League team.
The 2020 NL Cy Young Award winner announced on X that he would be pitching against the Yankees on Sunday when the Bronx Bombers face the Diablos Rojos in an exhibition game in Mexico City.
Bauer, who has been attempting to return to Major League Baseball for the first time in three years, will also pitch in five additional games for the Mexican baseball team between April 11 and May 8, which will serve as a training period for him “in lieu of a traditional spring training period.”
“It’s the best way for me to stay ready to pitch,” Bauer wrote on X. “This will help me stay in game shape and I’ll be able to join a rotation immediately if or when an MLB offer comes. Hope to see you on Sunday and can’t wait to show y’all what Mexican baseball is all about!”
Bauer recently pitched in a game against Dodgers minor leaguers in Arizona.

The former Dodger has not pitched in an MLB game since he was placed on administrative leave following sexual assault allegations by a woman in 2021, in which she claimed he had assaulted her on two separate occasions at his Pasadena home.
Bauer claimed they were consensual and he denied the allegations.
Prosecutors declined to file charges in February 2022.
MLB handed down a stern 324-game suspension to Bauer, which was later shortened to 194 games by an independent arbitrator in December 2022.
Bauer was cut by the Dodgers after he completed his suspension and no other major league club has picked him up since.
Bauer went to Japan to pitch last season for the Yokohama Bay Stars, going 10-4 in 19 starts.
Bauer has said that he would pitch for the major league minimum.
